Happy July! As you celebrate some well-deserved time off for the long weekend, we’re back and better than ever with our monthly maintenance checks to make sure you keep your home top-of-mind.
So, what should you be looking out for this July? Here’s what our friends at Alberta New Home Warranty have to say!
Clean Intake Vent Screens
Another summer month — another monthly intake vent clean! Keep the air in your home fresh by cleaning out the intake vent located near the ground on one side of the home.
Inspect Condensate Line of Air Conditioner
If you have a built-in AC unit, it’s time to look at the condensate line! Dirt, dust and the occasional ice crystal can plug the line, so make sure to clean it regularly.
Check and Test Carbon Monoxide and Smoke Detectors Batteries
Safety comes first! Check and test the batteries of both systems to ensure you and your family are safe. Since every model varies, read the owner’s manual if you’re not familiar with your carbon monoxide and smoke detectors.
Clean Range Hood Filters
You clean the oven — so don’t forget about cleaning above it too! Kitchen range hoods impact your home’s ventilation system. Help remove odours and improve air quality by replacing the filter.
Clean Your Gutters and Downspouts
This maintenance check usually happens sooner, but with all the rain we had last month in Alberta, this is a friendly reminder to take a look at your gutters and downspouts! These tools carry rain away from home and protect your foundation. If you haven’t already, give your gutters and downspouts a check to make sure they’re clean and placed properly.
Check Your Sump Pump
Speaking of rain, it’s time to look at your sump pump too — before you wake up to a flooded basement! Take the time to ensure all drainage systems (sumps, drains, etc.) work properly and that the water drains away from your home.
Now, you can feel secure knowing your home is ready for another month of summer fun!
