It’s the last month of summer! As we soak up the heat before we approach the season of colourful leaves, pumpkin-everything and crisp air, we have all the tips and tricks from our friends at Alberta New Home Warranty Program you need this August to keep your home in tip-top shape.
So, what should you be looking at for your home this month? Don’t worry — it’s a short list!
Sealants and Caulking
With cleaning and the natural expansion and contraction of materials bonded with the sealant, sealants may crack or separate from the joint. See any deterioration? Repair the sealant immediately!
Clean Intake Vent Screens
With a forced-air heating system (furnace and ducting), fresh air is brought into the home from another intake vent located near the ground at one side of the home. Head to that vent and make sure it’s clear of any debris!
Carbon Monoxide and Smoke Detectors
If it has been a while since you’ve changed your carbon monoxide and smoke detector batteries, it may be time to change them! If you’re unsure how to change the battery, check your owner’s manual!
Range Hood Filters
Time to check your range hoods filter! Clean and replace with the recommended filters. Cleaning these filters leads to the removal of odours and improved air quality!
Christmas Lights
Why are we talking about the holidays in August? Hear us out — if you don’t leave your holiday lights up year-round, we recommend taking time this month to hang up your lights in preparation for the season while the weather is warm and the roof is free of snow or fallen leaves!
